Social Worker - Morningstar Outreach Program

The goal of the Morniningstar Outreach substance abuse program is to identify the Indian substance abuse cases in the Kansas City area, assisting individuals and their families with a plan for recovery from substance abuse and assist in their adjustment to living free of chemical dependency. As an adjunct to this outreach, a case management component is integral to assisting individuals and their family’s access services and resources in the community they need to maintain their recovery from substance abuse.

The Social Worker is responsible for functions related to the Morningstar Program, including case management, facilitating recovery circles and support groups, and community outreach/networking. There may be other duties as assigned.

Applicants shall have at least a bachelor's degree in social work.  A valid state substance abuse certification/licensure is desired. Experience may be substituted for a professional degree. 

The Social Worker shall be knowledgeable and sensitive to the diversity of Indian culture as well as have a well-rounded knowledge of alcoholism/substance abuse and 12-step programs.  Applicant must have the ability to interact successfully with employees, volunteers, and clients in an urban Indian community.

Social Worker must affirm in writing that his/her employment performance has not been impaired by alcoholism/substance abuse over the past 3 years.

Compensation depends on experience and in accordance with the Board of Directors approved annual operating budget.

Normal work hours will be: This is a full-time position. Normal work hours will vary based on customer need and evening hours will be required.
